About the Speakers:

Kristin Shamordola:

Kristin attended UCSB and graduated in 1991 with an English degree. Straight out of college, she went to work for Santa Barbara Police Department, where she worked for over 27 years as a patrol officer (mostly night shift !!), a Crime Scene Investigator, a Gang Enforcement officer, and a Property Crimes Detective. While in the detective bureau, Kristin focused on financial crime investigations, specifically those targeting our senior population. She retired from SBPD in 2019, and in 2021 joined the District Attorney’s Office as a Real Estate Fraud investigator, where she quickly learned how little she knew about real estate fraud. Over the past five years with the DA’s office, she has learned much more about real estate fraud, and continues to work financial elder abuse investigations.

Greg Hons:

Greg Hons is also a UCSB alumnus from the late 1990s, and after college graduation he worked as a “sanitation engineer” before attending the police academy and joining the Santa Barbara PD. In his 21-year career with SBPD, Greg was a bike patrol officer, a SWAT Team leader, and a Property Crimes Detective. Currently, Greg is also the Executive Director of the Santa Barbara Police Foundation. Because his law enforcement partner (Kristin) is the one writing his bio for him (he’s very busy with a big case at the moment) you must also be informed that Greg was a cheerleader at UCSB, responsible for tossing smaller cheerleaders up into the air. Feel free to ask him about that. At the DA’s office, Greg also investigates financial crimes targeting the elderly.
