SUMMARY:JCafé - The Darkest Day in American History with Eric Lane
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, November 17 for a special presentation
by Eric Lane on The Darkest Day in American History: Our AbandonmentÂ
of E Pluribus Unum. \n\nOn July 30th\, 1956\, the President of the Uni
ted States\, Dwight Eisenhower\, signed aunanimously enacted joint reso
lution of Congress abandoning our historic national motto\, — E Plurib
us Unum\, (Out of Many One) — for what it called “a superior and mor
e acceptable motto for the United States”:  In God We Trust.\n\nThe
original motto was framed by three of our most prestigious founders\,
John Adams\, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.  The author of the
current motto was Charles Bennett\, a frightened congressman from Ja
cksonville Florida. A desire for a “more perfect union” fueled th
e adoption of E Pluribus Unum. Fear motivated In God We Trust\, a fear
that we live with now.\n\nThis talk will be the story of that changeÂ
and its unexplored impact.\n\nJCafé is a social program for the 65+ Je
wish community\, offering a delicious deli lunch followed by an engaging
class\, film\, or lively discussion! For just $10\, enjoy a deli buffet
\, drinks\, and dessert. JCafé takes place every Tuesday from 11:30am-1
:30pm. Please note\, lunch is served from 11:30-12:30 pm.\n\nIf you have
any questions\, contact Ashley Belinfante at abelinfante@sbjf.org. If
you are interested in leading a class or lecture\, we'd love to hear fr
om you! We are currently welcoming ideas and volunteers.
