Doo Wop with Ron Sorgman

Doo-wop is a style of vocal-based rhythm and blues music which achieved mainstream popularity in the 1950s and the 1960s. It primarily consists of multiple voices singing in harmony. The tight harmonies of the background singers and the unusual phrasing (shoo bee doo) are the most identifiable aspects of the music.

Many of the songs were founded on love themes embracing both joy and sorrow, and have easy-to-sing-along-with lyrics (such as “choo bop shoo bop, my baby”). It is just this type of fun vocalizing that is the focus of the workshop. This is for the enjoyment of all those who wish to participate or just be a spectator. The more voices, the better!

Instructor: Ron Sorgman was part of the Boston group The Interludes in the early 1960s. The group reunited in 1986 and they perform together whenever possible. Ron has lived in Santa Barbara since 1974.
