SB Jewish Community Statement on Racism

We the undersigned organizations of the Santa Barbara Jewish Community are united in our horror, heartbreak, and anger at the killing of George Floyd by members of the Minneapolis Police Department. All of the officers involved must be held accountable for taking Mr. Floyd’s life.

We stand in solidarity with Black and Brown communities around the country as they yet again are subject to pain and suffering resulting from an experience of unjust, immoral, and brutal treatment rooted in racism. We recognize the extraordinary fatigue, despair, and outrage that these communities are feeling, and we commit to working together and with others to institute the systemic reforms necessary to secure a just and fair society for all.

We call on you to join us in taking a stand in our community, on social media platforms, and in daily conversations to condemn racism, to stand up against all forms of hate, to call out bias in the institutions around us, to consider perspectives different from our own, and to inspire our children to continue this important work.
