Freedom's Wings
A performance in commemoration of
Martin Luther King Jr.
The evening's speakers included Lauren Katz, the Incoming President of Federation, Dr. Elizabeth Wolfson, Director of Jewish Family Service and Portraits of Survival, and Dr. Juliet Rohde-Brown, Antioch University, Santa Barbara.
Freedom’s Wings was performed by Clandis and Robert Payne, K'ly Jordan Carey and Kameron Shemar Carey.
Clandis Payne is a Psychology Doctorate Program student at Antioch University. Her play presented experiential moments that take place during the time of slavery and the present.
Judith Meisel, a Holocaust survivor whose experience is depicted in the permanent exhibit Portraits of Survival, spoke about the experiences that inspired her activity in the civil rights movement, including the March on Washington, which led to meeting Martin Luther King Jr. Click to read Mrs. Meisel's Portraits of Survival story.
Dialogue and Diversity Through the Arts
Part II of this series will include a theatrical performance with Sara Miller McCune reading from the books Freedom's Wings, and The Diary of Anne Frank. SAVE THE DATE: Thursday, April 8, 7-8:30 pm.
